On time but light
20/3/2008

Looking out across the water to see zero wind wasn’t really part of the plan, but then it was supposed to swing and build through the day. The forecast was spot-on with the timing and direction, the wind even started to blow on time, everything was looking spot on for a good day.

After the 5am starts we’ve been having the late tide was a welcome relief, giving plenty of time to rig while we waited for the Ray bank to reveal. Some how the wind seems camera shy this year, no sooner had we set them out the building wind backed off. Frustratingly it blew through the second we turned them off again, but by then it was too dark to run.

We had a few hours of wind between fifteen and twenty three knots, but considering the lack of strength everyone was still making reasonable times considering. Local boy Andrew Brown was the first to make good use of the light winds and started getting over thirty seven knots.

Gradually everyone followed suit, but this week it was Bob Cunningham’s turn to set the run of the day, thirty nine knots it a great time, particularly when we’re all pumping to get onto the plane.

As the light faded and we turned the cameras off the wind picked up a force or two, by the time I was home it was pushing the van all over the road. It will come together… eventually
